The remaining work package number 3 (WP3), which could be called “Water for People”, was launched in January 2021. It is the largest part of the entire Water Centre project in terms of its work content.
The WP3 work package is further divided into eight sub-objectives. Seven of them focus on the individual types of measures at a time of occurring climate change, drought and water scarcity. They will examine various types of adaptation measures with respect to surface water and groundwater (water transfers, optimization of the use of existing reservoirs, small water reservoirs, dry reservoirs, protection and support of ground water resources, natural and artificial infiltration and solution of locations of possible future dams (the so-called locations of surface water storage). The last, eighth sub-goal will have the character of a synthesis of the previous solutions. In specific areas, the most suitable combinations of measures will be evaluated as a whole in order to find an effective way to retain water in the landscape. WP3 will gradually take over the results of WP1, which deals with the determination of deficit areas based on a comparison of water requirements and its sources. The leader of WP3 is Ing. Anna Hrabánková, head of the Department of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Hydrogeology of the T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute. The Czech Technical University, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, the Czech University of Life Sciences and the Global Change Research Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic will also participate in the activities of the work package, which are planned until 2026.
